Within the supplementary coverage, fixed maximum amounts have been established for the castration or sterilization of your pet. These amounts are reimbursed once and include all consultations, (blood) tests and medication.
All medical treatments to the reproductive organs fall under this coverage and have these maximum amounts, even in case of an emergency.
You can only choose this supplementary insurance if you sign a contract with us for a minimum of 5 years. Treatments that are necessary due to or as a result of the castration or sterilization are not insured.
Preventive care*
We reimburse the following preventive medications:
All types of vaccinations;

- Medical check-up / examination / preventive consultation.
We calculate the amount of the payout with the reimbursement percentage that belongs to the insurance package you have chosen:
- Basic package 50%; or
- Standard package 70%; or
- Extra package 90%.
Consultations that are part of preventive care are included in the total maximum reimbursement for preventive care. We reimburse a maximum of €60,- per insurance year.
Determine your own deductible yourself, €0,-, €50,-, €100,- or €150,- per insurance year. Whatever suits you and how much discount you want.
The above table provides a clear summary of what is covered. In our terms and conditions, you can read the complete coverage conditions.

Why get dog insurance?
As an owner, you want your dog to be healthy and happy, without worrying about the costs. Unfortunately, veterinary treatments are often quite expensive. Whether it’s for an routine check-up or a complex surgery, vet costs can quickly rise to hundreds or even thousands of euros.
With dog insurance, you can always give your faithful four-legged friend the care they deserve, without having to worry about the price tag.

This is how our dog insurance takes away your worries
Imagine this: your dog makes a wrong jump in the park and breaks its leg. It’s painful and stressful, and without veterinary treatment, proper recovery is impossible. X-rays, medication, and surgery are not a luxury in this case, but a necessity.
That’s going to be an expensive surprise… or is it?
❌ Without insurance: the bill runs up to €1.800
✅ With insurance: you only pay €180*
You have two choices: either you pay the full price, or you choose affordable pet insurance and rest assured that your dog will always receive the care it needs. This way, you can both enjoy carefree moments together.
Provide insight into veterinary costs
A vet visit may seem minor, but the costs quickly add up. A consultation can cost from €50,-, and vaccinations €30–€75. If something goes wrong, the costs skyrocket: a broken bone costs €700–€2.500 and allergy treatment costs around €2.400 per year. Parasite treatments (€50–€150) are also common. With good pet insurance, many of these costs are covered up to 90% (depending on coverage and deductible). These amounts are indicative and may vary by clinic or region.

Our dog insurance covers many costs, all of which are listed in the terms and conditions. Here you can find some examples.

When to insure / when not to insure?
Many people wonder whether insurance is the right choice. Many dog owners set aside a monthly amount for expenses such as vet visits. Do you find it difficult to save for your dog’s medical expenses? Then taking out dog insurance may be a wise decision.
We are happy to help you make this choice!
Do insure:
- You don’t have a budget or find it difficult to set aside a monthly amount for your dog’s medical expenses.
- You prefer having a clear overview by paying your dog’s healthcare costs monthly.
- You want the reassurance that your dog’s medical expenses are covered.
Do not insure:
- You have sufficient savings to cover high veterinary costs.
- You prefer to pay for care only when your dog needs it, rather than paying a monthly premium.
Which dog insurance package is best suited to my situation?
Basic
Choose this package if you have a young, healthy dog and are mainly looking for an affordable safety net for unexpected medical costs.
- Lowest premium and a solid safety net for unexpected events
- Essential care and diagnostics for common incidents
- Ideal for young, healthy dogs if you have sufficient savings
Standard
Choose this if you are looking for the best balance between premium and coverage, with more extensive cover for common surgeries and recurring conditions.
- Best balance between premium and coverage, with more extensive reimbursements
- Suitable for active or middle-aged dogs, including surgery and recurring conditions
- Fewer financial surprises with long-term treatments; intensive care is partially covered by insurance
Extra
This is the right choice if you want maximum predictability with the most comprehensive coverage, including specialist care and partially covered advanced diagnostics.
- Most comprehensive coverage with high reimbursements for most healthcare costs
- Including specialist care and advanced diagnostics (MRI/CT partially covered)
- Recommended for chronic conditions, at-risk breeds, or if you want maximum predictability
Cost of dog insurance
The cost of dog insurance varies per dog and breed. The price depends on your dog’s age, weight, and breed. Are you curious about your future premium? Then easily calculate your premium for dog insurance at PetSecur!
What determines the premium of your dog insurance?
The premium is tailored to your situation and depends on your dog’s characteristics and the coverage you choose. There is no fixed “average” price; the following factors play a role:
Characteristics of your dog
Breed – Some breeds have a higher risk of specific conditions (e.g. hip or elbow problems or skin allergies). This increases the risk and may affect the premium.
Age – Older dogs generally require more (chronic) care. The younger you insure your dog, the more favourable the premium usually is.
Weight/Size – For larger or heavier dogs, medication and treatment costs are often higher, which is taken into account in the risk calculation.
Your choices in the policy
Package level – Basic, Standard or Extra: the more comprehensive the coverage and the higher the annual limit, the higher the premium.
Reimbursement percentage & (voluntary) deductible – A higher deductible or a lower reimbursement percentage can reduce your monthly premium, but you will pay more if you make a claim.
Additional coverage – Options such as Dental Care, Preventive Care, Castration/Sterilization or Cremation increase the premium but help limit unexpected costs.
Practical example: a young, medium-sized crossbreed with Basic and a €100 voluntary deductible usually has a lower premium than an older large-breed dog with Extra and a €0 deductible.
